While some plastic stools are rather cheap looking and not something most people would choose to have in their homes, others are well made and come in a variety of styles that are perfect for the more modern kitchen giving the dining area a very bright and futuristic look.
There are four main sizes of bar stools, and you will need to consider this when purchasing them, they are based on the height of the seat. You can purchase counter top bar stools which are the shortest of the bar stools and are the height of an average kitchen work top. Next are the bar stool height, these are designed for bars so they are slightly higher. The next bar stool is often referred to as a bistro stool, these are very popular for patio areas and the last stool is known as a hybrid. The hybrid stools are adjustable, you can move them up and down to suit your needs these are often gas lift bar stools. Whichever bar stool you decide to purchase it will look fantastic in your home, they are timeless and classic pieces of furniture.
The first thing you need to decide upon is the proper height. Most stools were originally all 30 inches tall. This is the height of all of the \"pub\" stools that we are all familiar with. More recently, bar stools have been made available in a lower 24 inch height. This shorter type of stool is perfect for children, people with mobility problems or at breakfast bars. Both barstool heights are readily available and most styles are offered in your choice of height. The shorter versions tend to be less visually obtrusive and fit well in small spaces.
When selecting new or pub stools for your home, you must consider a number of things, but one element should be considered above all others...bar stool height. A pub stool size is measured in seat height, or the height from the floor to the top of the seat base. There are only a handful of stool sizes, or seat heights, from which to choose, although finding a seat height for just about any situation is not difficult. These sizes range anywhere from 18 inches up to 36 inches. Some of the more common uses of these different stool sizes are described below.
Stools that will be used frequently or for long periods of time (dining, game rooms, commercial bars, etc.) should typically include arms AND backs to increase comfort and decrease stress on your back and shoulders.
